How I Found Calm Out of Chaos & How You Can TooÂ
So, how did I get here? Great question!
I actually started Outnumbered by Chaos in October 2022, just 5 short months after losing the love of my life to a sudden heart attack at the young age of 37, and 2 months after giving birth to our last little baby â making me a single mama to 3 busy kiddos and no idea how to move forward. Â
Exhausted would be an understatement to describe how I felt during those days. I was overwhelmed, consumed by grief, and searching for real answers to my very real, chaotic life. I knew I needed help, but nothing was working. I tried everything⌠No, really. I bought programs, home management systems, parenting books, listened to all the podcasts, and watched so many YouTube videos that probably accounted for a full 2-week Hawaii vacation worth of hours. Needless to say, I was desperate.Â
All of these âsolutionsâ were great. They promised to teach me the ultimate hack for getting my life together and I knew it was going to work. Until it didnât.Â
Now, donât get me wrong, these programs and videos are great! They even helped me learn some techniques to improve my life and I still use them to this day. But what I discovered was that the problem was not my home, it was my heart. Â
You see, I spent so many years surviving on my own strength that at the end of the day I didnât have anything left to care for my home and family the way God had intended. Add on the pressure of needing to look âput togetherâ, and my energy bucket was drier than the Sahara Desert during a sandstorm.Â
Day in- and day out- I pretended all was well, until I just couldnât pretend anymore.Â
Thatâs when I found my miracle solution and the calm to my chaosâŚ.
Jesus.
The Big Question: How Do I Change My Home and Family for the Better?Â
During this season of my life (which Iâm still in â by the way), Jesus shows up for me every single day to remind me that even though the storms will come, and chaos happens. But He is our strength and the rock of our salvation. I learned that He is the one who carries me through.
Jesus must be at the center
When we put Jesus at the front and center of our lives He acts as a sort of filter. He tugs at the strings of our hearts that tells us how to glorify Him with our actions. For me, when I am choosing to either do (or not do) something, the Holy Spirit reminds me of Colossians 3:23-24âŚ.
âAnd whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. â
Through this scripture, the Holy Spirit gently nudges my heart to make the right choice and often gives me the strength and motivation to keep going, even when it feels hard.
The Word of God
The Word of God has been called the Living Word for one specific reason â it has the amazing ability to speak into our lives exactly where we are and in whatever situation we are facing to bring comfort, peace, hope, and joy. Â
Moreover, we are reminded countless times to meditate on the Word of God every. single. day so that we may be renewed. And Iâve learned that Godâs Word can never steer us in the wrong direction.
âTeach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes and I will keep them to the end.
Give me understanding that I may obey your law,
and follow it with all of my heart.Â
Direct me in your path of your commandments
for there I find delight.Â
Turn my heart to your testimonies and
not to covetous gain.Â
Turn my eyes from worthless things;Â
Revive me with your Word. Â
Establish your Word to your servant to
produce reverence for you.Â
Turn away the disgrace I dread,
for your judgments are good.Â
How I long for your precepts!Â
Revive me in your righteousness.ââ Psalms 119:33-40
Through the Word of God, I realized that God had already given us everything we needed to be the best homemakers, mothers, daughters, and friends. We just need to learn to tap into it.
âYour Word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.â
â Psalms 119:105
And with Jesus being the Word made manifest in the flesh and the Light of the World, what better direction than to let Him lead my life?
A Realistic & Consistent Plan
Iâve learned to see real-world strategies for home organization, homemaking, parenting, and even grief through the lens of Jesus, to create real solutions to the chaos we feel every single day.Â
